Acclaimed jazz/pop crossover vocalist and songwriter, Joelle Lurie, is thrilled to be returning to Regattabar in Cambridge for a special hometown show. Joelle has been praised for her "magnificent voice" (Metro NY), "fresh sound, putting pop grooves beneath old standards" (NPR) and a "vocal chameleon" (NPR), given her classical training and ease within switching genres. Featured on NPR's Song Travels with Michael Feinstein, Joelle's cross genre quartet are known for performing both catchy originals and surprising covers in the span of a set that sounds soulful and sexy. These originals as well as her jazzed up pop tunes and popped up jazz tunes can be heard on "Take Me There" (2014) and "Ginger & Spice - Holiday EP" (2017). They hold a weekly steady house band gig at the iconic Tavern on The Green in Central Park, NYC and have performed at Birdland, Lincoln Center, The Rainbow Room, New York Stock Exchange, and across the globe for concert work and private events.
In the 2016-2017 season, with the help of an Artist Residency with Lincoln Center Education, Joelle and her band developed an alter ego new kids' jazz band called JoJo & The Pinecones. Their album, "Night & Day" (2017), is geared toward kids but enjoyed by all ages, and debuted with great reviews since charting on SiriusXM Kids Place Live. They have performed at BAM in Brooklyn, NY, the famed Lollapalooza Festival, as well as museums, other festivals, and at educational workshops held with kids of all ages.
Joelle grew up in the Boston area and studied at New England Conservatory prep school, Tanglewood, Indiana University's School of Music and The New Contemporary & Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy Institute. She holds a Bachelors of Music from Boston University's College of Fine Arts. In addition to her singing engagements, she conducts private lessons in person and virtually.
