MIT Federal Credit Union Joins in Virtual Campus Preview Weekend
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 20, 2020 – MIT’s iconic Campus Preview Weekend (CPW) is a highly anticipated event each spring for admitted students. It’s a chance for these students to visit the campus, attend a wide variety of interactive events, and experience the university in action. MIT Federal Credit Union (MIT FCU) participates in the event each year, meeting with prospective students and their families, and providing opportunities to meet credit union experts, learn about banking basics, and explore the services, products, and solutions available to them. This year, the global pandemic forced Campus Preview Weekend online. With only one week to prepare, the credit union team developed a virtual program that fits well with CPW and melds MIT’s love of technology with the creativity that is also a hallmark of the Institute.
“CPW is always an important weekend for us. It allows us to meet prospective students face to face, answer questions, and help support our student population,” says Latonya Smith-Winston, Community Relations & Development Officer at MIT FCU. “With the whole event going virtual this year, we had no idea what to expect or how it would go. It shouldn’t be a surprise that students and parents got into the virtual experience, and we had a great turnout. We may decide to keep elements of the virtual program going forward as part of our new normal when campus opens again.”
MIT FCU participated online over a revamped two-week schedule and included a Credit 101 Workshop exploring the fundamentals of financial literacy, and two Ask a Credit Union Q & A sessions. Hosting the events online had a democratizing effect, allowing students and parents from around the world to attend.
