    Position Overview:
    The Director of Membership Development fosters and implements growth of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce membership base. The Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit membership organization representing all sectors of the Cambridge economy. The primary role of the Director of Membership is to manage the recruitment of new Chamber members as well as retaining the current membership. This position reports directly to the Chamber President.

    • Identify, contact, and recruit potential Chamber members from businesses and organizations throughout the Cambridge greater area
    • Develop objectives and research-based strategies for prospecting businesses
    • Actively seek new business leads and follow up as appropriate
    • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategies designed to attract new members.
    • Schedule appointments and personal visits with prospective companies
    • Ensure all recruitment processes are integrated and strategic, adhere to brand standards and are an effective expenditure of resources
    • Work with Chamber President and Director of Finance to develop and achieve annual revenue goals
    • Assist in the development of strategies for partnerships and sponsorship programs
    • Cultivate and maintain an extensive knowledge of Chamber programs, services, initiatives and activities, as well as the Cambridge business community at large
    • Actively support and participate in Chamber sponsored events and programs, including those outside of regular business hours
    • Work with Chamber members to help them reap the full benefits of their membership
    • Serve as staff liaison to volunteer committees as assigned
    • Represent the Chamber in a professional manner
    • Effectively manage additional staff including interns and volunteers as needed
    • Perform other job duties as assigned by the President of the organization
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Minimum two years’ experience in sales, with preference given to experience in membership recruitment in a business or membership-based organization
    • Knowledge of sales processes and customer service-oriented principles
    • Ability to assess marketing opportunities and develop strategic plans to reach targeted audiences
    • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively cultivate relationships with prospects, members, volunteers and community stakeholders
    • Ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences
    • Strategic, critical thinking and problem solving abilities
    • Results-oriented and accountable for measurable goals
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Experience interacting with a broad range of business executives/owners/operators ranging from small businesses to senior level executives
    • Ability to prospect/cold call
    • Able to effectively present and close a selling opportunity
    • Must be a team player that works well in fast-paced, changing environment
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel and Word
    • Experience using a database system
    • Knowledge and understanding of the business community in the Cambridge area is a plus
