Join hundreds of fellow food lovers as we gather to enjoy a dine-around experience generously donated by local restaurants and caterers during the Party Under the Harvest Moon, an annual benefit for Food For Free. The event will include food and beverages generously donated by local restaurants and caterers, live music, and a silent auction.
Party attendees will enjoy beer, wine, nibbles, and desserts donated from Bisq, Buenas Maxi Kiosko, Cambridge Brewing Company, Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, Dave's Fresh Pasta, Effie's Homemade, Harvard University Dining Services, Henrietta's Table, iCater, Insomnia Cookies, La Brasa, La Fábrica, Mainely Burgers, Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub, Nubar, Q's Nuts, Royal East Restaurant, Russell House Tavern, Sofra Bakery & Cafe, Something Savory Catering, Spindler Confections, Trina's Starlight Lounge, Viale, and Whole Heart Provisions.
Car Talk’s Ray Magliozzi and the Comedy Studio’s Rick Jenkins will lead the evening as emcees along with Food For Free’s Executive Director Sasha Purpura. Irish folk band The Lindsays will perform a mix of contemporary songs, old ballads, and Irish traditional jigs. The event will honor David Davidson and Crista Martin, both of Harvard University Dining Services, for their leadership in expanding food rescue on the Harvard campus.
Auction items include a private in home three course dinner for eight prepared by Chef Martin Breslin and Chef Akeish Hayde of Harvard Dining Services, two round trip plane tickets from Boston to Martha’s Vineyard on Cape Air, one month of fencing lessons for two at Boston Fencing Club, assorted cheese and charcuterie gift basket from Jasper Hill Farms, a private oyster shucking lesson and feast for 4 people with East Boston Oysters Company, and more. Every dollar spent on tickets, auction bids, and donations will help Food For Free make healthy, nutritious food more accessible to those in need.
All proceeds from the event go directly to support the nonprofit’s food rescue, school, and transportation programs as well as the organization’s innovative meal program, Family Meals. Since 1981, Cambridge-based Food For Free, has responded to local hunger by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste, and distributing it to local emergency food programs including food pantries, youth programs, shelters, and more. Through a combination of food rescue, direct-service, farming, and transportation programs, the organization’s year-round services give people access to fresh fruits and vegetables, which are typically lacking from the diets of low-income individuals and families.
The event is made possible by the support of Food For Free’s Leadership Sponsors: Biogen, Cambridge Savings Bank, and MIT, as well as two dozen other sponsors.
Party Under the Harvest Moon will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at MIT’s Morss Hall, located at 142 Memorial Drive in Cambridge. Tickets are $75 each. For more information or to reserve tickets, visit: http://www.foodforfree.org/party
