FARR ACADEMY WARMLY WELCOMES YOU to visit our studio! Enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and baked goodies; learn more about the work we do with students (we've been around since 1972); and browse through the selection of student-crafted artifacts for sale -- they make excellent, one-of-a-kind holiday gifts!
FARR WORKS is an art studio and woodshop developed to provide students at Farr Academy with an opportunity to build self-confidence and self-esteem, develop job-related skills, and enhance their creative skills through a work experience.
This project was developed by Barbara Greenspan, an art therapist who formerly worked at Farr Academy, and became a reality in the summer of 1992 when four students were hired to work in the studio. Later, woodshop was added to the program and over the decades dozens of students have successfully engaged in Farr Works to create slab-built clay pottery, hand painted clay trivets, wooden cutting boards and toys, and even furniture.
Income from the sale of these products goes directly toward the salaries of students and the costs of this project.
The mission of Farr Academy is to provide challenging and troubled adolescents with a therapeutic education that fosters the building of academic, personal and interpersonal skills, thereby enabling them to graduate from high school; achieve success in their chosen careers; remain connected to their families; and become positive members of the larger community.
