In partnership with the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, the Carl F. Barron Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2001 for awarding college scholarships to Cambridge resident students who are graduating high school.
Carl and Ruth Barron were beloved Cambridge business people, philanthropists, visionaries and community activists. They were the founders of Putnam Furniture in Cambridge and long-time members of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce. Their interests were many and varied from history, to politics, religion, genealogy, art, music, travel, architecture, social justice, education, good food and above all, community service. They loved their children, grand-children, great- grandchildren and each other.
Carl and Ruth surrounded themselves with Cambridge people, devoted themselves to Cambridge causes and created this Legacy Scholarship for Cambridge resident students.
