Description
A Two CD release concert celebration!
"Three Moments," with master percussionist Rakalam Bob Moses.
"Seasons," with bassist Bruno Raberg and drummer Dave Fox.
Strickland (woodwinds, voice) and Rosen (piano) have been performing together since 2007, creating
intimate, spontaneous music, with an expansive repertoire based on Rosen's compositions and
Strickland's "Be Here Now Suite." Rakalam Bob Moses' presence uplifts the music with an intensity borne
of his lifetime of fellowship with the jazz greats.
The new recordings reflect the deep growth of these groups through years of working together. Strickland and Moses have been entrancing audiences for over 35 years!
Josh Rosen has performed/recorded with jazz greats Joe Lovano, Mick Goodrick, George Garzone, David Tronzo, Greg Hopkins, Dennis Irwin, Steve Slagle, Bennie Wallace, and the Either/Orchestra with Ethiopian masters Mulatu Astake and Mahmoud Ahmed.
He has released 5 albums, with several projects currently in production. Rosen's debut, "American Waltz", featured his compositions with jazz masters George Garzone, Mick Goodrick and Phil Grenadier. Next was the intimate album "Instinct", with Boston legend Stan Strickland (woodwinds, vocals). "Instinct" was followed by another duo, "Brothers", on which he plays keyboards, bass and guitar, joined by friend and co composer Ralph Rosen (harmonica, drums.) "Sparks", (2017) was included in the Grammy nomination pool and features an octet with cellist Eugene Friesen and drummer Mark Walker. This year Rosen released another duo project: "The Music of Paul Motian and..." with legendary avant-garde bassist John Voigt.
Rosen is Professor of Piano and Ensembles at Berklee College of Music. An international clinician with Master's degree from New England Conservatory, Rosen studied with pianist Fred Hersch, and composers William Thomas McKinley and Robert Cogan. He has composed music and sound design for numerous film and media projects.
Stan Strickland has performed with jazz greats Yusef Lateef, Pharoah Sanders, Herbie Mann, Danilo Perez, Shirley Scott, Marlena Shaw, and Marty Ehrlich, while opening for legends Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins. Strickland has appeared throughout the United States, Europe, New Zealand, Russia, and toured South Africa with The Village People. Stan was featured with Take Six and the Boston Pops at Boston Symphony Hall.
Strickland has a Master's degree from Lesley College and is a professor at Berklee College of Music. He is Co-Executive Director of Express Yourself, an award-winning arts therapy organization. He has performed theater and dance including "Coming up for Air," an autoJAZZography written and directed by Jon Lipsky.
The legendary musical spirit Rakalam Bob Moses has performed with jazz greats Charles Mingus, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Gary Burton, Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, and John Medeski among many many others. Moses has created his own highly original musical world, with a unique palette of percussion colors. His innovations are informed by his NYC childhood, where he was immersed in the music of the city's jazz masters.
