Harvard University welcomes new president Harvard University formally installed Drew Gilpin Faust as the school’s 28th president on October 12. She is the first woman to hold the office, the first Southerner (she was born in New York City but raised in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley) and only the third historian. On Faust’s agenda are reinvigorating undergraduate and graduate education, expanding the role of scientific, medical and technological research, energizing the arts and humanities and overseeing the planning for Harvard’s new campus in Allston. |
