New Chamber Board leadership named
Two-thousand and eight is not just a new year—it also ushers in new Board leadership at the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce.

After three years, Neal Mizner of Metropolitan Moving & Storage Corp. has ended his extended term as chair. Neal served an additional year when a former chair-elect left the Board upon moving from the Cambridge area. On behalf of the board of directors, membership and staff, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Neal and his organization for their support.

We welcome our newest Chair, Michael O’Connell of Mount Auburn Hospital. Many of you have probably met Michael at a variety of community events, as the hospital is an ardent supporter of the Cambridge community. Michael has served on the Chamber’s board for more than five years. The board and CCC staff are enthusiastic about the next two years under Michael’s leadership.

Two-thousand and eight brings another first for the CCC. When the organization adopted new bylaws in late 2006, it provided the opportunity to create a clearer succession path for all new chairpersons. The position of vice chair was created to offer leadership assistance and preparation for both the sitting chair and future chair.

“This new position allows for a greater working relationship amongst the officers of our board and it also assists us in avoiding the challenges faced if a chairperson leaves unexpectedly,” said CCC President Kelly Thompson Clark.
The Cambridge Chamber is proud to announce that Kathleen Granchelli of Draper Laboratory will serve as the first vice chair of our board of directors. Her term coincides with Chair O’Connell and in 2009, the board will vote to elect Kathleen to the seat of chairperson.

The board also welcomes two additional new officers. Arthur Spears of East Cambridge Savings Bank will take on the role of treasurer and Sarah Gallop of MIT will serve as clerk for the next two years. Per the bylaws, the officers and executive committee will serve for the term of the chairman.

On behalf of the membership and staff of the CCC, we offer much appreciation to our entire board of directors.
