Excellence in Business Awards to be presented June 3
The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce recognizes the outstanding achievements of Cambridge-area businesses with the annual Excellence in Business Awards. Six awards are presented to exemplary companies, organizations or individuals who, over the past year, have made an impact on the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Cambridge and their industry.

The Excellence in Business Awards will be presented at a gala awards dinner on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge. Don’t miss this exciting night as we name the “New Member of the Year,” “Small Business of the Year,” “Nonprofit of the Year,” “The Leading Edge,” “Corporate Citizen of the Year” and “Carl F. Barron Business Person of the Year.”

This year the award presentation procedure is a bit different. As in years past, we have narrowed down the nominees to three finalists in three of our award categories. A group of members have been selected randomly to take part in the voting process and the winners will be chosen with the assistance of an Award Subcommittee. The winners will remain confidential until the awards are presented on the night of the event.

New Member of the Year

The New Member of the Year award recognizes a business or individual new to the CCC who demonstrates outstanding commitment to the Chamber and the community. The finalists are:

• Complya Consulting Group, LLC   

Small Business of the Year

Honoring a company in the Cambridge area with fifty or fewer employees that demonstrates excellence, professionalism, leadership and originality in its industry and exhibits a tangible record of positive impact on the community, the finalists for the Small Business of the Year award are:
• AGENCY 3.0
• Big Foot Moving & Storage, Inc.
• ePlace Real Estate

Nonprofit of the Year
This award recognizes a Cambridge-area nonprofit that demonstrates superior performance, quality and consistency in the pursuit of its mission and evokes community spirit & participation. The finalists for Nonprofit of the Year are:
• James F. Farr Academy, Inc.
• North Cambridge Catholic Corporate Work Study Program
• Science Club for Girls

In the remaining three categories, the honorees have already been named.

The Leading Edge

Given to a business that demonstrates leadership and innovation in the technology or biotechnology industries and dedication to product/process development to enhance and enrich people’s lives, the Leading Edge winner is:
• Ironwood Pharmaceuticals

Corporate Citizen of the Year
In the category of Corporate Citizen of the Year, which honors a business that demonstrates significant contributions, involvement or distinguished community service in the Cambridge area by developing community partnerships, supporting philanthropic activities and encouraging volunteerism, the winner is:
• Camp, Dresser & McKee

Carl F. Barron Business Person of the Year
Named after Cambridge businessman Carl F. Barron, this award honors an individual who demonstrates professional excellence and outstanding leadership in the Cambridge community by supporting and motivating colleagues and employees with enthusiasm, vision and integrity. The Business Person of the Year is:
• James MullenBiogen IDEC

In addition to presentation of the awards, this event will feature a keynote address by Aaron Davis, noted authority on peak performance and championship teamwork. Aaron has shared his insights on the possibility of human potential with over a million people throughout the United States and abroad. As a member of the 1994 National Championship Nebraska football team and through work with numerous corporations & organizations, he understands firsthand what it takes to perform like a champion and experience incredible results personally and professionally. Aaron is the author of the inspiring book 10 Minute Truths and the co-author of two others.

Now is such an important time to support the local business community. We are all in need of an evening of motivation and invigoration. Join the Board of Directors, membership and staff on June 3 at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge as we honor and celebrate the accomplishments of the entire Cambridge-area business community. This evening is dedicated to you, your business and your future success.

The cost is $90 for members and $180 for non-members. Reserved tables of ten are available to member companies for $850. The evening will include cocktails (cash bar) and informal networking, dinner, dessert, keynote and presentation of the awards.
