November 7 City Council Meeting
The major issue affecting the business community addressed at Monday’s City Council meeting was approval of a Policy Order regarding November being Hire a Veteran Month in Massachusetts. The order asks the Community Development Department to confer with the Chamber to notify small businesses about this. A copy of the order is available at http://www.cambridgema.gov/cityClerk/PolicyOrder.cfm?item_id=9213.
Election Results
The big surprises on Tuesday were first time School Committee candidate Patty Nolan topping the ticket and three term City Councillor David Maher losing his seat. The total vote was also down almost 5,000 from two years ago. Maher was replaced by Craig Kelley, a North Cambridge resident and environmental consultant. Luc Schuster, a 25 year old Cambridge Rindge and Latin graduate and teacher, is also newly elected to the School Committee. Nolan and Shuster replaced first term incumbents Marc McGovern and Ben Lummis. All results are unofficial. Certified official election results will be available next week. It is unlikely that results will change.
