July 25, 2007 GAC Update 

The full Council will next meet in a special summer session on July 30.

On a sad note, Edward Sullivan, former Middlesex County Clerk of Courts, Cambridge Mayor and City Councillor, died yesterday.  He will lie in state in the Sullivan Chamber at City Hall on Friday July 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. and the funeral will be at St. Peter Catholic Church on Concord Avenue on Saturday morning July 28 at 10 a.m.  The Chamber sends condolences to the entire Sullivan family.   

The deadline for candidates to file nominating petitions for the Special State Senate Election and for City Council and School Committee is next Tuesday, July 31.  For updates on who has filed to run go to the Cambridge Civic Journal website at www.rwinters.com.

Former County Clerk, Mayor and Councillor Edward Sullivan Dies

Former County Clerk, Mayor and Councillor Edward Sullivan died yesterday at the age of 86. Mr. Sullivan was first elected to the Cambridge City Council in 1949 and served on the Council until 1960.  He served one term as Mayor from 1956 to 1958.  He was elected Clerk of Courts in 1958 and served until his retirement last year. 

Mr. Sullivan will lie in state in the Sullivan Chamber of the Cambridge City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Avenue on Friday, July 27 from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass in St. Peter's Church, 100 Concord Ave., Cambridge, Saturday, July 28 at 10 a.m.  More information is available at State's longest-serving elected official dies at 86 and Former Cambridge Mayor Dies at 86
