May 30, 2007 GAC Update 

No City Council this week, the Council meets next Monday, June 4.

We have two great events coming-up in June that will be of interest to GAC members. 

The Chamber is looking for information about immigration reform issues important to Chamber members.

The Special Primary Election to replace former Senate President Robert Travaglini was held yesterday.

Immigration Reform

As you know the US Senate is considering legislation to reform current immigration laws. Issues related to the current regulations have been raised over the last couple of years by Chamber members to staff. If you have particular concerns or ideas please forward them to Terrence F. Smith, Director of Government Affairs at tsmith@cambridgechamber.org.

The Chamber has not taken any position on this issue and may not take a position but it will be helpful in discussions with elected officials and other business associations to have an idea what issues related to this legislation are important to our members. All responses will be held in confidence.

Special State Senate Election Results

State Representative Anthony Petrucelli won the Special Primary Election, held yesterday, to fill the seat in the State Senate by former Senate President Robert Travaglini. The State Representative from East Boston defeated Revere City Councillor Dan Rizzo on Tuesday. The Special General Election is scheduled for June 26. As no other party had candidates running, State representative Petrucelli will be unopposed.
