February 20, 2008 GAC Update

The Council did not meet this week due to the President’s Day Holiday. Next Monday, February 25, the Council will hold a roundtable meeting to discuss Council goals. The next regular City Council meeting is scheduled for March 3.

The City Manager is looking for members to serve on the Cambridge Green Building/Zoning Task Force.

The GAC meets next Tuesday, February 26 at noon and our guest is City Manager Robert Healy. If you plan to attend you must RSVP to RSVP to Terrence Smith, Director of Government Affairs at tsmith@cambridgechamber.org or by phone at 617-876-4213 by 5:00 p.m. on Friday February 22.

April GAC Meeting and Luncheon
Tuesday April 29, 2008
James Scafide, Chief of the Business Technology and Economic Development Division of the Office of Massachusetts Attorney General, will be our guest at the April GAC meeting and luncheon. He will discuss Attorney General Martha Coakley’s initiatives around job creation and economic development and is interested in learning what issues are of importance to the Cambridge business community.   If you plan to attend please RSVP to Terrence Smith, Director of Government Affairs at tsmith@cambridgechamber.org or by phone at (617) 876-4213. 

(Note that for this month we will be meeting the last Tuesday rather than the fourth Tuesday of the month.)

Members Sought for Green Building/Zoning Task Force

City Manager Robert W. Healy is seeking interested parties to serve on a Green Building/Zoning Task Force. This group will work with city staff over a period of six to eight months analyzing various approaches to encouraging energy efficient building practices. The group is expected to develop a series of zoning (and possibly other) recommendations for submission to the City Manager.

Representation will be sought from the following groups:

  • Architect or engineer, with knowledge of State Building Code
  • Business community, especially biotechnology field
  • Environmental advocacy group
  • Residential owner
  • Electric utility
  • Solar (or other device) installers
  • Construction trades
  • Planning Board
  • Local universities
Various city departments will also participate in this effort, including Public Works, Inspectional Services, Community Development, Historical and Electrical.
