Cambridge is a commuter-friendly city. Half of the Cambridge workforce lives outside the city, and one-quarter of all Cambridge workers utilize the city's vast public transit resources. Cambridge employers have a wide array of transportation options for their employees including subway and local bus, private shuttles, and garage parking.
Because Cambridge's physical size is only 6.5 square miles, most Cambridge locales are within a short walk or bike ride of each other. Pedestrian and bike traffic within the city is heavy, and the City's Parking and Transportation Demand Management Ordinance (PTDM) is designed to encourage employers to provide alternate transportation incentives to their employees. Find out more about PTDM
Subway & Local Bus Subway, rail and bus service is operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Both the subway (locally referred to as the "T") and over 30 bus routes serve Cambridge, allowing easy access to neighboring communities and the city itself.

Private Shuttles Charles River Transportation Management Association (CRTMA) is a non-profit association created by and for Cambridge businesses to reduce costs for employers who seek to provide alternate transportation options for their employees.
CRTMA operates EZRide shuttle for participating members. The shuttle provides free employee transportation between major public transportation hubs on the Green Line at North Station and Lechmere, the Red Line at Kendall Square, and other employment locations throughout the eastern end of Cambridge. Non-members may also ride the shuttle for a $1/trip. Employers interested in sponsoring the EZRide shuttle for their employees or bringing EZRide to their part of Cambridge should contact the CRTMA.

Garage and Private Parking On-street parking is difficult in Cambridge, and several companies offer employee lots and garages. Companies seeking to add parking spaces to existing lots or to build new parking facilities should be particularly mindful of the PTDM Ordinance, which affects the amount of parking a company can develop. Private parking can be obtained by contacting commercial realtors or developers.
